$120,500 Injury Settlement - Elevator Accident (Premises Liability)
Raleigh Premises Liability Settlement Result
In 2023, we represented a client (and mother) who was injured when an elevator door at a North Carolina office building suddenly closed on her shoulder and nearly knocking her to the ground. Our team of premises liability attorneys in Raleigh, NC reached a settlement with the property owner, property management company, and elevator service company for $120,500.
When our client was exiting the elevator door, it closed suddenly, hitting her from behind, and nearly knocking her to the ground. When our client planted her right leg to prevent falling, she tore her lateral meniscus. Unfortunately, after a series of complications, our client spent nearly 3 years receiving treatment for post-traumatic arthritis caused by the accident.
As part of the litigation, our personal injury partners, Justin Osborn and Joe Budd, argued that the elevator service company and property management company both failed to service and inspect the elevator door operations for the building elevators. Our investigation also identified a witness to the accident who signed an affidavit that he observed the elevators malfunctioning for several hours prior to our client’s injury, which established the opportunity for the defendants to have identified the problem to protect the public.
This is just an example of one of the recent results by our Raleigh team of premises liability lawyers. With decades of collective experience, our injury attorneys have helped clients across North Carolina and South Carolina recover millions in damages against insurance companies, large corporations, employers, and the powerful.
